Keith Smith – Senior Associate
Keith started his working life as a VSO teacher. After a period as a mountain
guide in Africa and in business he worked as a manager for community action and
communications charities. He became the Chief Executive of Broadcasting Support
Services, leading it out of the BBC fold to become a national organisation.
At BSS he worked closely on health and education projects with the BBC and Channel 4 and with a number of government departments and the EU. Outputs from this included the National AIDS Helpline and Live Aid.
Following an MSc in Management Consultancy, Keith‘s 60 clients have included major national and international charities, government departments, and charity consortia.
Keith has contributed to and written books including Charitable Status – A Practical Handbook and Marketing for Small Publishers. He writes for Charity Finance. He has been a Research Associate with the Institute of Development Studies and is currently an Associate with the Centre for Charity Effectiveness at the Cass Business School of City University. His particular interest is international learning.
He has served as a trustee of a number of charities ranging from Oxfam to a village hall.
Keith practices from Somerset, London and the Scottish Borders.
