Mike Hudson – Founder & Director
Mike Hudson worked for Friends of the Earth as Local Groups Co-ordinator, a campaigner and subsequently as Administrative Director.
Following an MBA from London Business School he worked as a Management Consultant with the Addison Group in the UK and the USA.
In 1982 he began doing consultancy assignments for the Chairs and Chief Executives of disability organisations and subsequently established Compass Partnership as a group of consultants working mainly with nonprofit organisations and their funders.
Mike has undertaken assignments for many of the top 500 UK charities and played an innovative role in the sector, introducing and popularising strategic planning and benchmarking and more recently developing new approaches to assessing the performance of governing boards.
He has also worked for many government departments, helping to shape policy and funding programmes for the voluntary sector.
Mike has been a Visiting Fellow at the London School of Economics where he undertook a major research project into the management and governance of nonprofit organisations in the USA. He is currently a Visiting Fellow at the Cass Business School at City University.
His book Managing Without Profit (Third Edition Directory of Social Change, 2009) has sold 20,000 copies, been translated into three languages and published in an Australian edition. His other book Managing at the Leading Edge was publiched in the UK by Directory of Social Change (2003) and in the USA by Jossey Bass (2005).
Mike was until recently a member of the Board of the Leadership Foundation for Higher Education, Chair of its Audit Committee. He is Chair of the Farm Animal Welfare Forum and a member of the Editorial Board of Governance magazine.
