Types of plan
Three types of plan are common in the nonprofit sector
Strategic plans.
These plans are concerned with:
- the overall future of the organisation
- broad objectives and strategies
- mission and values
- a 3-5 year time horizon.
Service unit or business plans.
These plans are concerned with:
- the future of a service or campaign
- specific objectives, strategies and targets
- markets, prices, volumes, competition
- a 2-3 year time horizon.
Annual operating plans and budgets.
These plans are concerned with:
- actions, responsibilities, timetables
- measurable performance indicators
- linkage to the budget
- a 12 month work programme.
